Dominican runner MARILEIDY PAULINO showed her dominance in the 400m, winning the race comfortably with a time of 50.51 seconds. The Bahraini WINFRED MUTILE YAVI also won the 3000m steeplechase with an impressive world's best performance of the year in 9:04.38.
The Olympic champion in the 100m hurdles, JASMINE CAMACHO-QUINN, also won her race with an excellent time of 12.48 seconds. In other events, SLIMANE MOULA won the 800m, JUVAUGH HARRISON dominated the high jump with a leap of 2.32 meters, FRED KERLEY ran a phenomenal straight to win the 200m in 19.92 seconds, and NEERAJ CHOPRA , India's first ever Olympic champion in athletics, dominated the javelin with a throw of 88.67 meters. Additionally, the Qatari athlete MUTAZ ESSA BARSHIM finished third with a best clearance of 2.24m. He also claimed the joint Olympic crown which he shared with GIANMARCO TAMBERI in Tokyo.
