The sixth IAAF Diamond League meeting of the year, the Meeting International Mohammed VI will welcome a host of international stars to Morocco, while home fans will be able to cheer on both Iguider (5000m) and El Bakkali (3000m steeplechase) in the long distance events.
Narrowly beaten by a one-shoed Conseslus Kipruto in the Diamond League Final last season, 23-year-old El Bakkali kicked off his 2019 Diamond League campaign in style, taking victory with a world-leading 8:07.22 in Doha earlier this month.
The young Moroccan just missed out on a medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016, before winning silver at the IAAF World Championships in London a year later.
Last season, he ran one of the ten fastest steeplechases in history, smashing his personal best and breaking the eight-minute barrier with 7:58.15 at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Monaco.
A 1500m specialist by trade, fellow Moroccan Iguider will line up in the 5000m in Rabat, as he looks to prioritise the long distance event ahead of the IAAF World Championships in Doha this autumn.
Iguider won the bronze medal in the 1500m at both the Indoor World Championships in Birmingham in 2018 and the IAAF World Championships in Beijing in 2015. His personal best over 5000m remains 12:59.25.
Both athletes were presented at a press conference earlier this month, at which they told reporters they were mentally and physically prepared for the Meeting International Mohammed VI.
They also predicted that young Moroccan athletes would make a splash on the Diamond League stage in Rabat this year.
