Korir, Amos, Kitilit, Murphy, and Rotich, will all come together for an exceptional show in Rabat, supported by the Moroccan public who is passionate about this kind of event.
The 25-year-old Botswananian, Nijel Amos, the winner of three Diamond League finals, a record holder in the 800m race, will be among the favorites. He is the only Olympic medalist in the history of Botswana, and holds a junior world record ( 1: 41.73 in the 2012 Olympics). He is very focused on winning the Diamond League this season.
Last year, Amos had a difficult season as he experienced several injuries. Making a comeback in 2019, he achieved the year’s best race time in Doha. At 1: 44.29, he beat the previous record holder Kenyan Emmanuel Korir.
Korir who recorded 1: 44.50 earlier this year in Qatar has a revenge to take against the Botswanan. The 23-year-old Kenyan remains the best at 1: 42.05. He sees this year as a crucial stride in his career. However, it will be necessary to watch his compatriots Jonathan Kitilit and Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich. The latter can rely on his long experience especially in the Diamond League, of which he won the final.
To follow also is the American Clayton Murphy, 3rd at Olymics games of Rio who won the inaugural edition of the Athletics World Cup and came second at the continental cup in 2018. Moreover, the moroccan supporters will follow closely the young Moroccan Mostafa Smaili, who will be certainlysupported by a large crowd.
The middle distance race will be very well attended this year, since a good selection of runners will also take part in the 1500m women, including Genzebe Dibaba and Jennifer Simpson, in addition to the women’s 800m and the 3000m steeplechase.
