The organizers of the Moroccan stage of the IAAF Diamond League have already set the final rounds of the international meeting Mohammed VI scheduled on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the sports complex Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
Women's events: 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, Pole vault, Discus throw.
As for the men, they will compete on: 200m, 800m, 110m Hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, Long jump, High jump, Discus throw with as additional, non-Diamond League events: 1500m and 5000m.
These additional events are a strong disciplines for Moroccan athletics since the winner of the 1500m event of the previous edition of the Rabat meeting was the Moroccan Brahim Kaazouzi (born June 15, 1990 in Kasba Tadla) one of the best world and national specialists in this event. He ran the distance in 3: 33.22, achieving what was then his personal best, ahead of world-renowned runners: in second place, Filip Ingebrigtsen of Norway while Djibouti's Souleiman Ayanleh completed the podium.
For the 5000m it could be an opportunity to see a large representation of Moroccan athletes. Abdelati Iguider (born March 25, 1987 in Errachidia), winner of the 3000m race of the 10th edition of the international meeting Mohammed VI in 2017, in 7: 37.82 ahead of Spaniard Adel Mechaal (7: 38.35) and the other Moroccan Soufiane Bouqantar (7: 38.65), is the best example of the Moroccan tradition of world-class middle-distance runners. Would the world-famous Moroccan athlete, and as such one of the national stars, challenge himself and run a well appreciated 5000m’s distance? The final answer in the upcoming weeks.
An important milestone for the famous Diamond League, the Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting brings more than 190 athletes, including Olympic and world champions from around 60 countries. It will take place on June 16, 2019 from 6:30 pm.
