The middle distaance runner, finished the race in a 03.33.61 time, coming ahead of her teammate Silas Kiplagat (03:33.68).
“I didn’t expect to win the race today. It was pretty fast, this is a good beginning for me. I went in the lead early and i knew Silas was on my shoulder, so i had to keep going fast”, said Cheruiyot.
“The sprint was tough but I won it. This gives me confidence for the next races”, he added.
Third place went to the Australian Ryan Gregson. The holder of the Oceanian records (July 2010-July 2012) made it to the finish line in a 3.34.96 time.
